Who We Are

SIMPLY CHRISTIANS

The goal of the East Homer church of Christ is to be simply Christians. Nothing more. Nothing less.

The Bible, God’s inspired word to man, describes the group of people who follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior as “Christians” (Acts 11:26; Acts 26:28; 1 Peter 4:16). They were a part of the church that Jesus built (Matthew 16:18). Those who gave their life to Jesus through repentance and baptism were added to Jesus’ church (Acts 2:41). The word “denomination” never occurs in the Bible which means these faithful followers were not added to the Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist or Methodists. They were just simply added to the Christ’s church and called Christians. We believe that if we follow the pattern for the church that we find in the Bible, we too can be simply Christians. Our goal and mission is to go back to the Bible. Call Bible things by Bible names and be that church we read in the pages of the New Testament.

We only desire to be genuinely, whole-heartedly, Christian.

Why not consider joining with us in our plea to be… simply, Christians?

What We Believe

Please feel free to contact us and we would love to answer any questions you might have concerning what we believe and teach.

Vision

Not only do we want to be “Simply Christian” by our name, but also by our practice. We seek to do only the things we find in the Bible, nothing more and nothing less. It is our goal to have no other authority that guides us other than the Bible. We seek to practice what the Christians in the Bible practiced. We seek to live the way the Christians in the Bible lived. We seek to worship the way the Christians in the Bible worshipped. We don’t want to add or take away from what the Bible says (Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:6; Revelation 22:18). We speak where the Bible speaks, and are silent where the Bible is silent.

Mission

To Be Salt of the earth and Light of the World

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” - Matthew 5:13-16

Leadership

Currently the congregation does not have elders (shepherds) to lead as 1 Timothy 3, 1 Peter 5:2, and Hebrews 13:17 describes but we are practicing Ephesians 4:12. We prayerfully hope to soon install qualified men who will shepherd the flock just as God intended. Until then we have the men of the congregation come together to make decisions and a full-time minister who dedicates his work to evangelizing and preaching in the community of Homer.
